Throw away that FM Transmitter or the bulky CD Collection sitting in your car! Get this iPod/mp3 player connector cable for high-quality digital audio experience without upgrading your car factory fitted cd player. Totally inexpensive, easy to install and very simple to operate.
Like you, thousands of people have wanted to be able to connect their ipod or mp3 players to their car stereo systems to enjoy the digital quality audio experience while they drive. But, older car cd players did not have a convenient AUXillary input on their face for you to plug-in your ipod or mp3 players. Most people relied on an FM Transmitter to get their audio to play on their car stereo system. These transmitters are inconvenient, degrade the audio quality while transmitting and they do not appreciate your privacy as you signals can also be received by neighboring cars and radio sets.
Featured on this website is an innovative and convenient alternative, which is absolutely inexpensive and delivers amazing quality audio signals to play your ipod or mp3 player audio through your car stereo with no loss of audio quality. This connectors use an AUXillary port which is on the back of your stereo systems and which is usually unused by most people (unless you have already connected a device or a cd-changer using this port). Use this connector to connect DVD players, iPods, MP3 players, satellite radio receivers, carputers, or any other audio device with a stereo 3.5mm or 1/8" stereo line outputs (like the one on ipods or zune player to connect your headphones/earphones). An optional adapter is required for the RCA plug input.

Does this work for my car?
This connector works for the Nissan models with a circular 8-PIN DIN socket connector on the back of their car stereo systems. Some of the cars which have these 8-PIN DIN sockets are:-
- 1998-Early 2003 Nissan Altima
- 2001 Nissan Sentra
- 2001 Nissan Xterra
- More...

Make sure your Nissan car has this 8-pin DIN connector socket on the back of your car factory fitted radio/cd player system (Bose or Non-Bose). The 8-pin DIN plug is provided with this ipod connector to plug-into your 8-pin DIN socket to enable you to connect your ipod or mp3 player directly to your Nissan Altima or Nissan Sentra / XTerra.
Installation
This installation guide is generic for any Nissan model with a radio/cd system compatible with this connector as explained above. If you do not feel comfortable following these instructions yourself or do not have the necessary tools or skills for installation, please ask a local car mechanic or professional to install it for you- you can print out these instructions for their convenience. Installation will not take more than 30-60 minutes depending on your speed.
NOTE: Please confirm that your head unit has the black 8-pin DIN input socket on the back before ordering.
INSTALLATION STEPS: (Steps may vary depending on your nissan car model)
Safety precaution: Disconnect the negative battery terminal to
prevent an accidental short circuit.
1) Step 1- Things you need
You will need the following before you begin:-
> A hour of spare time or more if you take it slow
> A flat head screw driver
> A Philips head/4-pointed star head screw driver
> A small blade/sharp box-cutter
>A set of flat pliers to snap the red wire connector in place (optional)
> And ofcourse the product described on this page!

2) Step 2-Popping em'out
> To gain access to the back-side of your car radio, you will need to gently pop-out a few things as explained in this step
> Use the flat head screwdriver to gently pop-out the trim panel (Steps may vary depending on your nissan car model)
> After removing the shifter-cover trim panel as shown above, pull out your ash-tray (nissan altima) by pressing a little on its bottom while pulling it out completely (Steps may vary depending on your nissan car model)
>Unscrew the 2-4 screws holding your larger trim panel which covers your A/C and Radio as shown in the image below (Steps may vary depending on your nissan car model) Some car trim panels have only two screws to remove and they snap out.

Note: Be careful not to lose the screws. Make sure you are in a position to hold them when they are lose enough to fall from their sockets.
>Gently pop out the trim panel from position - be careful the cigarette lighter socket is connected by wires and as you take the panel out, make sure to gently disconnect the cigarette lighter socket and leave the wire plug in the same position hanging unconnected - You might also have to shift your gears/move your shifter handle to make space for the trim panel to come off totally.
> After successfully removing the trim as shown above, unscrew the 2-4 philips head screws holding your car radio in position as shown in the picture below for a nissan altima 1998+ (Steps may vary depending on your nissan car model)

> After removing the screws which hold the radio in position, gently pull out the radio unit and place it closeby. Be careful, the radio unit has wires connected to it at the back, do not remove the wires and do not stretch the wires as you remove the unit. Take out the unit only as much as the length of the wires allow you. Your unit back side should look something like this (little variations may be seen depending on your model, but the important thing is that it should have the unused 8-PIN circular socket as shown earlier on this page.

Note: The image above shows the unit with the wires removed. You DO NOT need to remove the wires while you install this connector
3) Step 3-Plug em'in
> Once you have removed the unit plugin the (usually black) 8-PIN circular connector plug into the 8-PN DIN socket on your car radio
> In this step your objective is to connect the single strand of wire which comes out from this ipod connector cable into the wire which is connected to the pin-10 of your car radio as shown in the picture below. To accomplish this merging you can either:- a) Splice the wire on the radio going into the pin 10 of the large 10 Pin modular plug shown here to the single wire coming out of this ipod connector using the red 3M Scotchlok connector provided, by placing both the wires in the wire slots of this red connector and closing the side-flap tightly using a set of pliers to connect the two wires together OR b) You can use the blade or small box cutter to strip a section of the wire from the radio you wish to connect to- strip the ends of the wire coming from the ipod connector and twist the end of this stripped wire onto the stripped portion of the wire from the radio to connect them together tightly.

Note: The above picture does not show the 8-PIN DIN plug as it has not yet been plugged in, and the side-flap of the red 3M scotch connector to join the two wires has not been snapped yet to merge the wires in the above picture. Please be careful about the wire you need to merge. Print out this picture to look at the wire position if you are in doubt and make sure you see which side of the picture is supposed to be the TOP of the radio unit so that you get to the right wire in the large plug with usually 10 wires
> Once you have made the two connections (Plug and wire) as shown above, make sure you place the ipod stereo cable (long wire with a stereo pin on the end to plug into your ipod/mp3 player/other devices) along with the switch cable which come out from the connector and run it and keep it in a position you want it to rest when its not connected to the ipod (People prefer to place it under their ash tray and some people run it to the space under the steering wheel)
4) Step 4-Back in position
> Now its time to place back everything in its original position - begin by sliding the radio back into its original position, put back its screws one by one gently tightening them (do not tighten too much)
> Once the radio is fixed in its position, carefully put back the large trim panel into position as its snaps into place and put back its screws in place - in this step becareful to re-connect your cigarette lighter to its wire which you had removed while you were popping the panels out
> Gently snap the shifter cover into place and your car should look like it was before you started except for the additional ipod connector cable and its switch cable hanging somewhere you wanted.
Note: If you had disconnected your battery terminals when you began, you can reconnect them back now.
How to Use
Once you have followed the above steps to complete the installation your connector should be ready to use.

Turn ON your car radio and make sure you can hear the music/audio play using your cd or radio. (If you hear nothing and your radio display shows the message 'AUX' don't panic- everything is allright- Just use the switch from the connector you just installed and try pressing it once and the 'AUX' message should be gone and you should be able to hear the music/audio from your radio unit.
Now, press the ipod connector switch (the one coming from the connector you installed) once and your radio unit display should show 'AUX' which means its ready to receive signal using the cable you installed - you can use the pin at the end of the installed cable to plug-in your ipod/zune/mp3 player or any device which accepts that pin.
Turn up the volume on your ipod/mp3 player and turn up the volume on your car radio and enjoy the digital quality signal directly from your ipod/mp3 player to your car radio!
If you want to switch back to your car cd/radio function, just press the ipod connector's switch once and the original car radio functions are restored.
